Jack is 18 years old. He has just graduated from high school and is preparing himself to enjoy his summer vacation. With a heatwave hitting the country and his parents gone for a week, he plans to play a lot of Call of Shooty under the fresh kiss of the a/c and regularly dip himself in the pool.

But Eve, his sister, has a different agenda. They can hardly stand each other and yet will have to spend the week alone together. Or maybe not, as Eve has invited her best friend, Cassie, to join her for a week of lounging by the pool.

How Jack will handle the situation depends on you.
 

 
Summer Scent is a branching story that your decisions and actions will shape. Through a combination of key choices and affinity points, you will influence the narrative and decide a path for you to walk. Your choices will have consequences, good or bad, pleasurable or nefarious, wholesome or destructive. There are eighteen different paths for you to explore.

Summer Scent includes some strong content that may not be suitable for your tastes. Some scenes may also show disturbing and violent outcomes.

This game is not for the faint of heart.

 I do not own a Mac, therefore I did not test the mac release.

Summer Scent v0.6.4a

Summer Scent v0.6.4a is now available for download.
  • Starting today, April 3rd, for Sailing Masters, Tide Riders and Sea Artists.
  • April 10th, for Gunners

Changelog v0.6.4a:
  • Some images have been reworked and rerendered, on both Day 5 and Day 6.
  • Several typos have been corrected. There will be more, of course.
  • A few bugs have been dealt with.
  • A Discord link has been added to the main menu.
  • A few elements of the script have been changed. It's for the better.

Changelog v0.6.4:
  • Day 2 Scenes 1 and 10 have been reworked.
  • New content: Day 6 Scenes 26 and 27. These scenes are the endings of the Evil Asshole and Psychotic Knight paths. These paths are now complete.
  • In total, the update is about 22k words long, with 700 renders and 7k lines of code.
  • Music. For the whole of Day 1, Day 2 Scenes 1 and 10 and Day 6 Scenes 26 and 27. The default volume has been set to 50%.
  • Some achievements have disappeared, and some others have appeared.
  • The Preferences screen has been reworked to include a volume slider and a taboo switch.
  • Minor edits to the ending screens.
  • Dozens of typos have been corrected.
  • The Renpy engine has been updated. Summer Scent now runs on Renpy 8.2.1

Summer Scent v0.6.4a
A new version of the game is available. The download links and the release post have been updated. For those who have already downloaded v0.6.4, a patch is available. 

The story map.

It's not complete but the structure is most likely definitive. I still have a couple of paths to flesh out a bit more but essentially, this is it. The night will be 18 scenes long. As you can see, some paths will have more than one scene. That is a lot of content. Probably something in the 65k words and 2000 + renders range.
Only the first two scenes, the yellow ones, will be included in the future v0.6.5 and I will most likely split the second part of the night into 4 other updates. 

Steam.
I hoped to activate the process this week but I have to delay it for a bit. I wanted to get a few things straight with the French administration. I foolishly thought it could be done in the span of this week. I should have known better.
France is known for its administrative insanity, and let me tell you this isn't a joke. French administration is so complex that no one is actually able to properly answer your questions, not even the advisors from said administration themselves. And the internet isn't very helpful unless you are looking for contradictory pieces of information. On top of that, of course, the administrative process takes ages.
So... I have paperwork to do, and it's a nightmare. I hope to have it resolved quickly so that I can finally get the documents I need to then visit my bank and make sure everything is ready and ok. It takes slightly more time than I anticipated.

Dev Update #242


The couple of weeks after a release is always a weird time. I spend most of my time making minor corrections to the script (no matter how much time we spend proofreading the script, there is no shortage of typos, I can tell you that), planning the next content, trying new stuff and considering changing or upgrading the various software I use. It's a period of transition and decision-making. Some of these decisions are potentially important, like reworking characters or updating Daz.

A new mom.
I reworked her figure. The previous wasn't bad but wasn't great either. her skin wasn't the greatest and she bore little resemblance to her offspring. The new one embarks 50 % of Eve in her base structure and her overall geometry and skin are simply better. 
I don't plan to do any canon mom-related content, but you can expect to see her in bonus renders.

Updating Daz.
I haven't done it yet but I'm getting ready for it. Working on v0.6.4 I felt the limitation of the outdated version of Daz I am currently working with. I could have used some volumetric shaders in that shower scene, but sadly, Daz 4.16 cannot do that. While Daz 4.22 can.
However, it's not an easy jump. I will have to rework the lighting of every set, as ghost lights are now working differently. I have no doubt I'll get good results with these new lights, but before making that jump, I have to make sure I don't have any old renders to rerun. It's not really important for all the content from Day 2 to Day 5, as I plan to rework all of it. But it is for all the Day 6 visuals that are definitive.
Maybe I can try tricking my computer into hosting several different versions of the software, just to be able to retouch old content if needed. I have to investigate before I do anything.

Day 5 Scene 23.
I've already talked about that. Just like in Day 2 Scene 10. I use in this scene some real images from an old movie. As I don't want to take any risks, I'm going to remove them before I hit the Steam button.
I'm not going to fully rework the scene for now (that will come later, of course) and I'm simply going to rerender a few shots. I have prepared the new "movie". The new shots should be ready by the start of next week.
I'm not putting too much effort into that task as I will rework the entire scene at some point in the future.

V0.6.5 map.
It's not done. Or at least not completely.
I'm mapping the whole night and that is a lot of content. So far, I have planned 16 scenes before we reach the morning of Day 7, 13 of them being of the naughty kind.
Obviously, not everything will fit into v0.6.5. I'm not sure how I will split all of that. Scenes 28 and 29 have to be released together. That's the only thing I'm sure of so far. I won't make any decision until the map is complete.

Dev Update #241


V0.6.4 has been available on Subscribe Star for a few days now.
So far you seem to appreciate it. As the evil asshole and psychotic knight paths aren't the most popular, to say the least, I was quite afraid of the feedback I would get. But I received nothing but compliments for both the endings and the reworked content. I'm especially glad about your comments on scene 27, the ending of the psychotic knight path. I poured my heart and soul into that scene and knowing that it had an impact made me happy.

A few weeks ago I talked about the technical difficulties I encountered working on that scene and about the fatigue that I was struggling with. I was thinking about taking a week of vacation after the release but with the Patreon debacle, that ship has sailed. 
Back to work. What's next?

Steam
I have a second scene with some real movie images to edit before I can submit it to Steam. Fully reworking that scene will have to wait for a later date, I'm going to simply reshoot the problematic images. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be pretty, but that will do the trick for now. Once it's done, I think I can start the steam process. I'll share with you every step of it. I'll start working on this Monday. This is my priority.

V0.6.5
It is well known: the night is dark and full of terrors, and it is coming. I have not yet drawn the story map of the next update, but as the evening falls on Summer City, things are going to get intense.
Here is what I'm sure of :
  • There will be one scene reworked. Day 2 Scene 2.
  • There will be two scenes of new content. Scene 28 for the Moronic Hero path, Scene 29 for the main branch. These scenes will be rather large I might have to split each of them into two. We'll see.

I'll probably hit in the 20k words with these three scenes only. I think it will be enough for a release. Let's hope I don't take me 8 months to release it.
